Steps to Install A Split Rail Fencing
One of the early methods in fencing is the split rail fence, it is typical used to fence farmhouses. Anyone who is living near the forest should learn the procedure on how to install split rail fence. The reason is because the enclosure is often found in forested area since most of its readily available materials are found in the wooden area.
It is both beautiful and appealing despite the fact that this method is old-fashioned and many people still use this especially those who still keep in touch with tradition. This method is simple, economical and well-built. The installation is functional and the tools required are basic such as wedge, a pair of gloves, helmet, and axe. The most important of all is that it is essential in recycling unusable timbers and producing a useful and appealing enclosure.
The first thing you need to do when installing a split rail fence is to determine where you will install the fence. You need to see first if the area you chose is safe for one to dug. Make sure that there is no water, gas, and power line underneath it. The lines can be very dangerous to anyone around.
After you finally decide you will build your fence, measure the perimeter of the area you want to enclose. Moreover, the boundary line should be marked in order to avoid confusion. You can make a mark by using ground stakes and create an outline by tying a guide from one corner to another corner. In this way, you can guarantee that you can have a clear guide and a well-stretched line.
After making a guideline, put all the corner posts. Dig a hole in order to set the split posts depth. Make sure also that it should accommodate a third of the overall length of the post to get an exact size of the holes. Then, put the concrete 24 inches deep and leave it for at least 72 hours. Place your posts at an approximate distance of 10 to 12 feet from each other. After you placed the post securely, make sure that the posts are positioned well and are in straight line.
Put a guide wire and be sure that the posts are placed vertically. The reason of placing a wire is to determine the accuracy of the line both in smoothness and dimension.
Next, measure the length from post to post in order to maintain a neat appearance. Split the post from its top to bottom using an axe.
The last step is to join the split post and rail together by using hammer and drive nails. The place will not only keep the place beautiful within, but it will also serve as a strong protection from any destruction.
